Another day, another problem......

I had my 82 Z28 up and down the block today. I looked down and the temp guage was PEGGED way past the red. I figured it was just an instrument problem, and I went for another minute or so. Pulled into my driveway and the overflow tank was BOILING. (The fan somehow got hung up on the shroud! Shaved the lip off the shroud, all ok now) SO, the temp guage is now pegged all the way at the top, and wont come down. I figured I fried the sensor. Now, where the he77 is the sensor on this car!? Haynes manual says 'front left head' NOT THERE! (And to complicate matters, I have an aftermarket manifold, and nothing is plugged into that either...)

So where, oh where, is my coolant temp sensor?

I swear Im gonna sell this car. Two weeks, 600 bucks, (on top if the 1300 I paid) and IM still no better off than the day I brought her home. PLEASE, somebody say something motivating.

 

in my car i have an aftermarket 350. The sensor is located below the number 6 cylinder. Passenger side if you dont know where the 6 cylinder is. Not to be mistaken with the oil pressure sensor, this one is plastic, and close to the spark plugs. I know because i single handedly destroyed mine changing my exhaust manifold to headers... and it did exactly what your describing.

 

if i remember right, you can only get it from under the car.

It has been a while but I seem to remember the temp sender on my 84 was on the left head. Either way its in the head and possibly your wire fell off and is grounding or melted to somthing and is grounding. They were before the snap together connectors and just slip over a like a nail head on the sender. Unless it was updated.

 

You guys were right. Bottom of left head. Sensor wire was knocked off when I tore out an old heat shield.
