RE: where do i find out..
Put in a more modern engine, but make it look like it belongs there. I would still ask the guys at the testing/inspection station what the stipulations are. As far as they're concerned, there may not be a problem with what you want to do. Plus,a modern engine is more efficient than what is in your 89 now.I also have to wonder just how much they do know about what belongs under the hood, and what doesn't. I swear, some of the testers here wouldn't know their *** from a hole in the ground. But of course, I'm talking about Illinois government!

ok lemme give ya the lowdown here. im plannin on getting a lq9. thats 6.0 out of the silverados and what not. reason being is its a iron block. stronger and less prone to cracks and what not. now can i slap any set of ls series heads on it or do i have to buy heads ment for the lq9? Also, anybody know if there is anything special about the ls series pistons or if any set of pistons would work so long as the bore matches? skirts or something are different i think, unless its the actual cylinder wall. if all goes well id get that 6.0 bore it over .060 to match the pistons i have now for what i was going to build, cam it, and work the intake a lot. IF money and time dictates, ill still have a small shot of nitrous. or shall we call it NAWS.. idiotic fast and the furious crowd..

Federal regulations do not allowinstalling an older model engine into a newer car, but allow a newer engine to be installed into a newer car, as long as it meeds all smog regulations and equipment applicable to the newer engine. State laws, such as in CA, NY, etc.,may make exceptions to this rule, so as was said before, check with your local inspection station & see what theinspector hasto say. Talk to the inspector, not someone just working there.
