I have an 82 'Maro that I want to drop a 350 in. I see '79 and older engines, and 86-91 motors and such. I plan on running it with NO smog or AIR, w/ a carb and no electronics. What years will bolt into this car? (Has a TH350 tranny). Thanks.

Why just up to 81? The 3rd gen s all the up to 92 had 350's. You'll find a difference in right or left side dipstick tubes and 86 and on had one peice main seals but the will still go in just like an other 350.
80 and up are the right hand dipstick

 

Up through '86 will be 2 piece rear seals. The one piece seal will require some other changes like flywheel, intake, etc.

 

Things like Emissions got harder to pass each year after 81. They have more factory hp than the newer ones.

 

My friend has an '84 with a '77 350 and I'm putting a '80s 350 out of a van in mine. I don't think that you're limited to very much on the year. I've even heard of 454s fitting.

 

A 454 would get me in trouble. Ill stick with a 350!
