I drive a 92 camaro rs. V6. I was driving down the highway on the way to work and my car started to feel like it was losing power. I was about to pull off the highway when it cut out on me. The motor was still going, but when i pushed the gas it sounded like it was just spraying gas or something on a fire. I lifted my hood, and sure enough, there was a fire under the hood. The black thing that isn'e supposed to be black was on fire. Can anyone tell me what the part is, and what all is hooked up to it. It looks like a couple of hose connections burned up a little. I'm a little really depressed about it. Anything helpful will be appreciated. Thanks any and everyone

ill second that on the egr solenoid. now how that managed to catch on fire is beyond me, something must have went terribly wrong electrically or mechanicly with the engine. is the car still able to run with it being the way it is now?

yes. yes. yes. they run around $100 to replace. frankly, if you arent required for emissions, you would be better off just getting a block off plate. you will be happier with that as it improves part throttle response and power (esepcially at highway speeds), and ive noticed an improvement in mileage with mine disconnected

I like the way the block off plate sounds. Where would i find that part? Or is it something i just mount over the opening to literally block off the opening? If you haven't noticed, i know just about less than nothing about cars right now

you could make one if you have enough skills. just remove the old egr unit and slip a peice of sheet metal between the gasket and opening on the unit, and bolt it back down. there should also be egr block off plates available from jegs or summit racing
im pretty sure this will work for you http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WND-9007/
