What are these wires
I'm working at an auto shop. I'm not really a mechanic. I came across a Camaro with a 2.8l motor. In the region of the distributor there are two wires that lead from a black connector and go down into the block. These wires look like they go directly into the block. What are they for?
I'm a mechanics helper. I don't claim to be a mechanic but I'm mechanically inclined. I just looked at this vehicle for the first time yesterday. The wires I'm describing have a black connector that looks like a fuel injector connection with a stainless locking wire. I'm thinking someone pinched this wire between the transmission and the block. I'm just curious if anyone has see this. I cannot think of a reason two wires would come out of a block or between the transmission and block without some rubber seal or grommet. These two wires are not long enough to reach the distributor or anything I can see.
could be for the oil pressure sending unit, cold start injector, or any possible sensors located back there. look for a sensor that is unplugged and it may go there. also, gm used the same wiring harnesses between engine years, and it may be an unused connector (although its unlikely)
Stainless locking wire? Ive never heard of that in a factory connection. Im not real well versed in the 2.8, but the general area you are referring to, it could be anything. Does it go into the block, or into a main wiring harness behind the block? The harness can really hide back there and lots of wires run into one conduit tube. A picture would be worth a million here.
