I'm thinking this is some type of smog air pump type of deal and I think I lost the pulley on it. I have a broken belt.
Do I need to replace it or can I live without it?
Should I take it off?
This sits right below the alternator.
By the way, '82 with a 305 automatic tranny.

yes, that is an air pump. do you live in an area that requires emssions? if so, then yes you will need to replace it. if no, dont worry about it. i live in a non emissions area and my smog pump was seized and that state inspector required me to replace it, but not hook it up.
