what engine should i put in my 84 camaro?
i have a 1984 and i need to know what engine i should put in it i was thinking a 383 or a good 350 but idk... i want something fast enough to beat most cars in this my town
An ls3 motor is more than enough specially if you got a Manual tranny (hell of a lot fun to drive) ... I wounldn't go stock with the LS3 too but that is all budget related opinion.
What range are you willing to spend & appearently the labour is charged in your case right ?

If this car is a keeper & he has the budget of going that route then hell yeah.
I wouldn't think of anything older than an Ls1 to throw in that engine bay.
But if he needs a cheap build just to get the car screw him up every now & then with the old school mystries of alternator/missfiring/lack of Technology & so on,
I'm sure there are plenty of companies that would get him a set of fabbed up motor mounts for the ls series style 3rd/4th gen engines.
Bottom line its budget controlled !!

I know I'm goin to **** off a lot of people here, but the sbc is a useless motor. Its a big heavy chunk of iron, with (for the most part) weak stock internals. It can't breathe well and can't rev well without serious work. To make a good motor, you'll put more into it than to start with a better baseline; the ls family. Stronger, lighter, better revving. In every way superior

The 383 obviously has more displacement and more power making potential that being said I have seen alot of good running 350s. The cost between building a 350 or a 383 is close if your budget is tight and you are going to build it yourself I would probably go for the 350.
