Default What is a 3.23 rear end good for?

When it comes to rear ends. I know nothing about them ( excluding the ladies) lol. My 91 has a 3.23 is that good or bad . What is it good for? And what is it bad for ? Basically whats the pro's and con's of it. Im sure I will feel stupid for asking this. But I have always heard that a 3.73 was the way to go. For quick acceleration and at the same token was easy on the pocket for gas. But is my rear end better ? Or worse ?lol

thanks !

The higher the number, the better acceleration you will have, along with less top speed and less gas mileage. 3.73 is the way to go in these cars, 3.23 is not bad, the 2.72 I think it is is just disgraceful. 4.11 is good for at the track, but not good on gas mileage.

So basically I have a crappy rear end for speed and acceleration. It was'nt made for that. It's made for economy and gas mileage ?

3.23 isnt bad, 2.72 is what sucks. My bro's 83 firebird had a 3.23 posi in it and it tore the road up. Then he wrecked the rear end and put a 3.73 limited slip in it.

Your gears DO NOT suck. My old 2.77's SUCKED. Couldnt even break the tires loose. I just installed a set of 3.73's this week and now shes fast as hell but killed my top end and my gas mileage sucks! But it was worth it. Dont fret about your gears, anything in the 3 range is fine. Anything lower sucks and higher is too much.

ive got the 3.08 limited slip in mine. i dont know how, many people have told me that dosent exist in my car. but i looked at the RPO codes and its for my car, and in the rear end.

but anyway, those 3.08 do alright for me, enough off the line to satisfy my needs. I still gotta take it easy on the gas or it WILL break loose. But with it being as high as it is. i can still do 70-80 on the highway at about 2 grand.
