Default vortec heads swap? and trans removal

hey i have a 87 iroc w/ a 305 centerbolt valve covers. would i still need to get self aligning rocker arms or would i be good also can you remove a 700r4 without removign the engine ?

not sure about the heads, but as for the trans, yes you can remove it without removing the engine

not sure about the heads either never messed with vortecs, as far as the trans, yep u can remove it without the engine, by removing the tranny brackets, but if you got big hands your going to kill yourself trying to get to those top bolts, but its possible.

thanks guys, so remove the bolts mounting the tranny to the block then just slide it off right?

Before you drop the trans..secure the torque converter..duct tape, ank mark everything with a paint pen so it all goes back in the same spot. Use a jack to lower the trans.

secure the torqe converter ? so it does slide out and fall on me or what do you mean, this is just the first time im removing the tranny without pulling the whole pack so sorry about all the questions

You'll want to secure it so it doesn't fall out on you......disconnect the battery or the ignition , you will have to turn the motor over some to get all the bolts on the converter.

Read that part again about the long extension and a swivel.

Those damn 6 bolts took me 2 hours........and seeing how I just blew my engine, I gotta do it again........
