Im going to be grinding about .030-.050 off my valve guides on the new Vortec's to allow for a bigger cam. (yes, the infamous ghetto grind) However, the stock valve seal are also going to need to be that much shorter. What seals do I use now?

IIRC you should just be able to use standard umbrella style valve seals...

Well, I gave up on the ghetto grind. There is just too much to risk here and I dont want to to the job over. I broke down and brought the heads back to a machine shop for them to take the guides down and get a valve seal that will give me enough clearance.

Yeah, I could have bought a set of aluminum heads by now........

hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm, i think many suggested that about a month ago?

btw, do you know how much lift you can get away with without using pushrod guideplates? we ran them on cams that were over .460" lift on our dyno mules at school

IIRC he's using the stock Vortec self aligning rocker arms which means no guide plates...

Yep, self aligning rocker arms. IIRC is if i remember correctly....and yes, you guys suggested that I just buy new, aftermarket heads....and I didnt listen.....Im still going to save about 350 bucks but the frustration has hardly been worth it. I should have the heads back on by next week....

Yup, IIRC= If I Recall/Remember Correctly

Scott, if you could post up a parts and price list that would be great. Something including machining costs, parts cost (new and used parts), etc.
