ok, either my starter, or the solenoid is going out. Lemme tell you the symptoms of my cars missbehavior. After driving for a bit, if i stop to get gas, then try to start it up again, it wont. With my headers, im guessing the starter is getting to hot. By the time it drops back down to abotu 180 or 190, it will start back up again.

THE CURE: new starter? or just a heat shiled of some kind? maybe both? I had the same problem on my 68, i put a shield on it, and it never gave me trouble again.

 

I had the same problem with my 68, only the starter goten too hot before I put on the heat sheild.

 

If you have the money, Napa sells a mini, high torque starter for 150 bucks. Lots of clearance from the headers.

 

yea, i was thinking about a mini starter. But i may go with a shiled first, see if that fixes the problem. If not, ill invest in a mini. if i can ill keep the shield on there too.

You can find shields, covering and mini starters at summit. And some starters are adjustable where you can clock it to fit it away from the headers and some under $150

 

ok i ASSUME that any starter made for the chevy 350 work... but ive been wrong before. is there a certain tooth count i should look for? bolt pattern? How about this one?

unless you have an aftermarket flywheel, it should be 153 tooth count on your, so that starter should work

 

If you look at the block where the gear is on the starter you will see it has 4 bolt holes for either 153 or 168 tooth flywheel

 

as long as your flywheel is 153 or 168 tooth, which i think all 350 flywheels are, there should be no problem unless you have an odd ball bellhousing
