Can you tell if the humming is coming from the middle or outside of the rear end? The humming noise may be an axle bearing. Not sure about the popping noise, might be a number of things. If you could have someone else drive it to a stop and you stand next to it, you may pinpoint what part of the car its coming from then do a little investigating. Does the popping noise come when you apply brakes or just slow speed?

i took it tonight and i had a buddy sit in the back he heard it to, he thinks its just the gears wining because i checked the fluid in the differential and it was full so i think thats out of the question. However, he drove it and i sat in the back, when he stepped on it from a dead stop it felt and sounded like the drive shaft hit the bottom of the car. My car is a 2002 SS SLP edition if that helps any. I think my suspesion might be bad. Not Sure tho!!

How many miles on the car? Have the shocks been replaced at all? Does the car keep bouncing when you hit a bump or does it bounce then stop? If it keeps bouncing (moving up and down) the shocks are probably shot. Gears shouldnt make any noticeable noise. You may want to drian the rear end and pull the axles out to check the axle bearings. If anything, the rear end will get a shot of new gear oil and a new gasket.

Your problem is that us a fourth gen car and this is the third gen section!
Check your ball joints. You can jack the car up and one person pry up on the tire while some one watches for movement in the ball joint. The control arm bushings. Eyeball all the suspension mounts.
The whining may be the rear is low on fluid, Some one just change it? It may be a Limited slip and need friction modifyer or the proper fluid. Or noisey tires

when i bought my car i had the same thudding of the tranny hitting the bottom of the car every time i got on it or hit the brakes. i had a broken tranny mount. so id check there. idk if 4th gens have the torque arm but the mount for that could be bad too.

Didnt realize i was in the wrong generation but it does have the control arm and the the differential is full, i took out the plug and gear oil came out. Ill check the bearings tomorrow. If i drain the differential and put high performance synthetic gear oil will it stop the wining sound
