Red is always a good choice
But also you can look for less expensive paint manufactures. Like Sherwin Wiliams has thier less expensive Dimensions. They also have Western but that stuff is good for work trucks! Check the parts stores in your area to see what is availibe. Also some Crapa (napa) autoparts sell automotive paints

two tone would be cool, red and metalic silver. I like metallic paints, but in single stage, it doesn't spray right. The metallic "specs" droop and sag, the paint does not dry fast enough. This makes it spendy to do it right. To do it right, it needs to be a base coat/ clear coat system.

Cost wise, red is the most expensive, usually. If you go single stage paint, stick to your primary colors, blue, yellow, red, etc.

I would think with his name the original color would be....BLACK!

As for metalics doing things when it single stage that is just because the nut on the handle of the paint gun is screwed up. That same nut can just as easily screw up a base coat metalic.

Sherwin Williams also has automotive paints. And depending on how well the paint covers and if your doing jambs you should not need a gallon. Unless you are spray happy
Also if you use a HVLP spray gun you get more paint on the car than in the air so you will use less.
Some will not cover as well. The scoop I put on my hood used about 1/2 pint of red. Thats because I did not seal it and the red was slighly transparent. I know from using a lot of Dupont Chroma base and PPG DBU that they use a high solids coloras thier sealer. If you were going red you would get a high solids pale red as a sealer.
