Dumb question is their really a performance difference if i go with a 700r4 instead of the th350 that's in it now.

the 700r4 has a lower ratio first gear , then finishes with an overdrive to help you save gas.
but you can't run it wide open in overdrive for insane top speeds, unless you have full manual valve body.
so you get better take off
and better cruise milage.
basically the same guts inside just a little more in the 700

if you want a four speed TH 400 try and find a way to use a 4L80-E.
you need to get a stand alone computer for the tranny but is possible
it's the big trannies from 3/4 ton pick-ups.
good option for someone that wants a th 400 and an overdrive.

and as well the 700 is bigger than the 350 , and the 4L80-E is massive.
so plan on cross-member and/or driveshaft changes

i was thinking bout putting a shift kit in the 700 and valve kit. So basically i would be better off with 700 hundred if i did that.

my camaro was set up for a 700r4 from the factory with a v6 but we put a beefed up 400smb in it and put a 350 behind the motor. I just want a overdrive 60mph a 3grand rpm kills me on gas lol. I just want to make sure i dont end up blowing the 700 because i do like to get on the car hard every now and then.

hmmm, you didn't mention a beefed up 400 , that needs more than a stock 700.
if you really like to drive it even onec in a while ... don't be shy about getting upgrades for your tranny. oil coolers are good insurance also.
there is soo much info on the net now that it's easy to find stag 2 and 3 tranny ready to go just add cash!

all you should really need to handle that power is a good shift kit and a performance servo, commonly called a corvette servo. otherwise as long as the tv cable is correctly adjusted, it should be good. just make sure it doesnt get too hot. also, the tv cable will prevent you from going into OD with anymore than half throttle. there are little brackets availible that will allow you to stay in OD up to 3/4 throttle

ive done a little research on this and i beleive that the 700r4 pushes more torque at the wheels and is better that the 350 as long as your car is pushing between 300 and 400 hp
