Default TBI upgrade

Hey guys and gals
I have a 89 Camaro with a 350(just put in), stock 305 TBI and intake, stock 305 headers, radical 455(not big block) cam, tpi vortec heads, and the engine has been bored .040 over. The sad thing is the car doesnt seem much powerful??? Im planning on putting long tube headers to get rid of the POS thats hooked to the sides of my engine soon. But im LOST as far as the TBI is concered. I dont want to take the carb swap road because i want to work with what Ive got and i heard adjusting those things can be a b*tch. So my question is ebay has a bottom half of a tbi unit that has been bored to 50mm(stock being 42mm) and can produce up to 450hp, and i was thinking of buying a 350 injectors tbi which has 55/hr injectors. Can this be done? I really only want to achieve about 350hp, no more no less? Any help would be great, thank you.

heres the links:

my guess is that your problems are due to the fact that the computer thinks its still providing for a 305 not a 350.

yeah thats for sure, thing is im unsure of the headsd and cam, so when i called emailed tbichips.com they said the cam that i described to them is not FI compatible????? According the the guy that gave me the engine it has a 455 cam with 238 intake and exhaust???? Ive looked at jegs, ebay and summit and kind find a cam with these specs??? Now for the heads, heres the kicker, he said it has vortec heads from a 90's truck. Well i took the valve covers off, ran the numbers and found out the heads are from a 350 TPI???? So Im stuck with the current prom until i can replace the cam with a cam I CAN identify and replace the heads. Dude i have quite the headache.

yeah....thats definately a tough thing. one thing you could try is go to a junkyard and pull the computer out of an obdI tbi 350 truck and put that in and see if it makes a difference.

Another Franken car problem, with a engine made with many unknown parts. Stories like this should make future buyer beware of the results of FRANKEN CARS.

305 and 350 computers are one in the same. NO difference. The problem is that TBI just isnt made to sustain high power. If you want more power, your going to HAVE to go with a different route. Or get a setup from holly. they have a 4bbl TB and you can get a 4bbl intake mani to match it. Like that other guy said, not all cams are compatible for FI setups. And if this one isnt, youll never run right.

If you at all interested, i have the mechanicals for TPI for sale. All in good shape, but dirty.

Is the cam specs advertised durations or actual @ 0.50 degree tappet durations? Advertised durations make the cam look bigger and badder than what they actually are. I learned that the hard way when I bought my first cam many years ago from lunati.

See thats the thing, i can't find the cam the was put into this car on jegs or anywhere (he said he bought it from jegs). I guess he could be lying but what can i do. I think im just going to buy the base 350 chip, if i can find the cop car chip even better and see if the car hops better. If WORST comes to WORST ill just put the carb system from my '85 iroc into this thing. Thanks guys

ok well sounds like u bought a car from a idiot lol
first vortec heads and the manifold u have wouldnt work...
but if u want to find the specs for your cam u should take it out and set it up on a mic and thts how u can get ur specs ya its alot of work but u will get good results i can find out all the info on how to do it that way my dad always used to do it that way.
anyways back to ur computer problems tbi setup is unique but very simple to work with i just build mine up this winter and mad alot of power with a simple cam and head swap on my 305.
wants u find all your specs
like engine size it could juss be a 305 alot of ppl say its a 350 so u will buy it.
cam size and all the specs
heads and all the info
timeing specs rear gears and etc
then what your easyest way of going is call or get online with jetchips they have a great product and will custom make you one but will pay a decent price i spent 500 on mine and it works great i get 15 16intown 23 highway and i make almost 300hp and somewhere close to that in tq
and you wil not be able to put a copcar chip in or anything like that the brodcast code is differnt and wont work right and the way that they are burnt is differnt
hope this helps.
