Default Synthetic Oil in 91 Rally Sport

I have a 91 Camaro Rally Sport with a TBI 305. It has 92,000 miles. I have always used Castrol 10w -30 in all my cars but have considered synthetic. Any opionions on synthetics especially with a motor with high milage that has used regular oil. If you like synthetic give me some ideas on brands and how often to change?? Do you use the regular filters?

Any info appreciated and thanks in advance,
fisherman

Default RE: Synthetic Oil in 91 Rally Sport

I use Mobil 1 in my GTP and Castrol GTX in my RS. The RS leaks, has 137K on the engine, and the previous owner didnt take good care of her. I've owned the GTP since it was new and its had Mobil 1 in the crankcase since its first oil change (at 1000 miles!!!)

IMO, you have too many miles on your RS to start using synthetic oil. I think it would be a waste at this point. Now, if you ever rebuild it or drop a fresh engine in, break it in with regular oil and change to synthetic oil afterwards.

I prefer Mobil 1. My GTP has 176000 miles and STILL runs like a bat out of you know where!
