Default Strut vs Shocks questions

I am ordering some shocks for my 2.8 for auto cross next year and I found some bilstein shocks for all around but i was wondering if i have struts in the front and do i have to buy struts for the front or can i buy shocks? And i am also looking at a strut bar that goes over the engine that holds the two strut towers and i was wonerign if it says tpi only will that fit my engine? I would suppose it would considering mine is MPFI and it doesnt have an air cleaner to go over so would that work and the engine bays are the same size anyway.

Shocks and struts are different from each other. And I would think that the bar would work with the MPFI. It sits lower that the TPI.

Picture of STB on a TPI engine to give you a look at clearances. Also all 3rd gen cars have Struts in front a Shocks in the rear.

Thanks ok so im getting a set of KYB struts and bilstien shocks. and hey thats the exact bar im looking at. And i am pretty sure it will clear the 2.8s mpfi. Have you noticed that it holds pretty nice and what would you think about getting some sub frame connectors?

It made big improvement in tightening the front end. I have installed Spohn SFCs, Rear LCA and Panhard bar. Also replaced all end links. So my car today is better then when I drove it off the lot when it was new.
