Default strut removal

i need to replace the front struts soon. im wondering it i need to remove the WHOLE uppper mount, or just take the bolt out of the top?

I think you can get away with just removing the upper bolt but I would recommend changing the upper mount also it's probably worn and since you're in there you might as well change it anyway.

thats another thing, the rubber bushing or whatever inside of it is really badly cracked and worn out, can i just replace that? or doi have to replace the whole mount?

Yeah i replaced mine when i put new struts on! the bushings were trashed car sat for five years by the water, ate up all the rubber bushings (rubber rot) also i hope you have a impact wrench those babies are on there, also it seem to change the alignment somewhat.

It does change the alignment. Thats why it has those big slots

they have already been replaced once, but they must have used either the wrong ones, or very poorly buildt ones. So im hopeing they are mega tight. So long as i can break them with my 1/2" breaker bar and maybe a cheater bar of some kind. If NOTHING ELSE, i can always, you know, hook that breaker bar up to the ol Allis Chalmers and give it a good tug, LOL

half inch breaker bar and someone with a giant pair of pipe pliers holding underneth were all it took to get mine off. it was probably the easiest part of the day. the rubber bushings are included with new struts, and my strut plate had bearings in them that were still in great shape

The ol" Alas might do it, if you can get her started? got any ether?they sure love there starting fluid? if not, i have access to a 988 cat loader![sm=badidea.gif] that baby will do the job and then some! hope you have a wide driveway, well i can widen it alittle while im there, LOL.
