starter gets to hot. either need to rebuild it, or get a new one. When you do this, invest in a starter shield while you are it to.

How many miles are on the car?

yea, chances are your starter is just worn out and gets to hot by the exhaust. Thats normally a problem reserved for people with headers, but from what you describe, it sounds like a classic case of over heating a bit.
