Default speed chip

ok, i am sure everyone has seen the "speed chips" on ebay. I was wondering what they do exactly, and if they are so great why doesn't everyone have one?

I was wondering about these last week myself
and all the knowledgeable people here said stay away
from them. They are scams! You can get the same resistors at radio shack....however there are the EXPENSIVE chips, like hyptertech and such, that DO work but with only minimal gains and personally I dont know if they are worth the money.

the resistors on ebay are just ****. all they do is fool the ecm into making your car run like crap. however, real computer chips do have a performance gain as they alter the fuel curve, ignition curve, and a few other parameters, and work well if you have other things already done

The so called chips, actually plain old $0.10 resistors, screw up the IAT sensor or the ECT sensor and make the computer believe that the intake air or engine coolant temps are colder than actual. The computer then causes the FI to deliver more fuel. This makes the fuel mixture richer then needed, causing driveability problems, poor mileage, and even loss of power. To make max power with good driveability, you need the proper fuel mixture, not a rich mixture.

I got a custom chip for my setup. I went to a 383 and had fuel injectors from a Z06, Dart heads, big cam etc. and I sent all of the specs of my heads, cam, fuel system, etc. to this guy and told him how I would drive it and how it would be used (pump gas etc). He burned me a custom chip to my setup (cam heads and everything) and it only took a week. He was awesome to work with and fast. The motor ran perfect and has for two years with no problems. It was also only 90 bucks. My friend got one from him too last year and it was about $110. But still, that's pretty cheap. Don't get the ****ty ones on Ebay where you don't really know what you're getting. This guy was at tbichips.com. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

You got a real computer chip, The stuff on E bay is not a chip, but just a resistor.
