Default shift kit

i was told that putting a shift kit on an older model GM with a lot of miles on it and not frequently changed fluid is a bad idea. Apparently every yaer the tranny fluid gets thinner and thinner. If i were to put a shift kit in id have to flush the system, and put the newer fluid in whihc is real thin, and there is potential to have some issues. Can anyone clearify this for me?

Default RE: shift kit

If it has miles and you put a shift kit in where it shifts harder it could cause the clutches to go out sooner. A shift kit whith good cluthes makes them last longer by taking away the mush shift and the slipping that comes with it. Just a fluid change after neglect can cause the tranny to quit. It takes away the clutch material that is in the fluid and makes them slip. Check on a TCI rebuild kit and they may be combined with the shift kit and just do it.
