i found some exhaust tips i like but they have resonators in them... wtf is a resonator?

 

It's like a mini "straight thru" muffler, with baffles cut into the inner portion of it, and some could also be fiberglass packed. They're designed to take the "rap" out of your exhaust note. And they do work.

 

Well, the good ones work. I have some cheapo resonated tips, they don't change a thing. And they are packed.

 

Arent resonater tips what thiose ricers put on all their cars? The fart cans?

 

no. big difference between an exhaust tip and fart can.

 

yeah fart cans are massive and obnoxious. resonated tips can range in all sizes and "resonate" the tone of your exhaust. on a v-8 or v-6 they will give it a cleaner sounding tone and take away the brap when you give it full throttle up in the revs. look at the slp loudmouth exhaust system and listen to a sound clip. that system doesnt use a muffler, it uses a good size resonator in the cat-back pipe.
