replacing the "hatch pull down motor" with something else?
Hello everybody
I'm from Europe and I have 89 Camaro.
I broke my hatch pull down motor 2 times please don't ask me why
Is there an alternative way to keep trunk down without a motor? any welding jobs or alternative parts available?
I need your help.

you could just unplug it, loosen the bolts and move the pulldown to where the trunk will close and it will just operate the same as a non motorized one. assuming the latch still works of course.

I could be wrong here, but I think the motor is necessary in preventing the back window from being broken, you know like if you slam it too hard the glass might shatter where as allowing the motor to pull it down makes it much easier on the car.
In response to your question about alternatives, I'd suggest ordering the metal housing unit for the motor from Top Down Solutions. I had to replace the same part on my z28 yesterday because the plastic housing broke and am about to order this part so I don’t have to do it again!

I would recommend replacing the relay then. Mine tended to collect moisture and short out. I ended up wrapping a plastic bag and wire tie over it. No problem since.
