Default Rear Hatch

The rear hatch pull down unit on my 89 RS suddenly went kaput! Wont work at all. And, if I leave the hatch open although the motor doesnt run or make noise it gets very hot. Checked the wiring/grounds and they all seem ok. Is this a common problem? Any help would be appreciated

Basically the rear pulldown hatch is a useless, but nifty feature. It's a common problem, if you don't want to buy a new motor, then you're going to have to tie it down. New motor on the 89 costs around 40$. A friend of mine just replaced his, it can be a pain in the ***.

I would not exactly call them "useless". The early thirdgens did not have them and the hatch was a ***** to close.
