Rattle Noise just started
Ok I just fixed the hood latch so it opens easily.
And then all of a sudden there was this horrible rattling noise.
I think it's coming from the exhaust pipes.
I couldn't see anything loose in the exhaust system at least yet.
The Camaro is so low to the ground is so hard to get a look.

It makes a noise like a can full of nails being shaken.
It is worse when stopped and the car is at idle.
To be fair I'm having a seperate problem with a rough idle.
If I give it a little more gas and smooth out the engine the rattling
noise quiets down considerable.
Thanks

bad cat maybe? my friends jeep had a cat go bad and it made a rattling noise similar to ur description.
not necessarily "bad" just messed up. sounds like somethin came loose inside the cat and now its bangin around. the sound reminds me of when u see a junker driving down the road and its muffler is floppin around on the pavement

are you sure the noise is getting quiter when you rev it or is the engine noise drowning the rattle out and my opinion would be a cat when they get older they break down in the inside i believe so its just like a can filled with nails im pretty sure its probally rust or ever litlle metal pieces shaking around inside the cat im not sure how to tell if its the cat for sure but to test and see if the cat is actually still doing its job just test the heats on the pipes before and after the cat like right were the inlet is try to take a temp with a laser heat gun or something and then take the temp at the outlet they should be prettty close in temp if not your cat bads but if it is the cat thats bad i think you would have a litlle engine performance problems and notice before
The Engine has been running badly for awhile. I too poor right now to take it somewhere for a dianosis. I do have a way of measuring the temp before and after.
thanks for the tip. BTW that was the longest sentence ever LOL.

sounds to me like a bad cat. it probably wasnt too good for it, but we backfired the hell out of it and it shot out. the rattling pretty much matched ur description, and at one point it even killed the horsepower by alot. if by any chance its not, look at any exhaust clamps
yep sounds like the cat if your losing performance to and yea just check the temp at the inlet and outlet that should be the final analysis and thanks about the sentance haha i dont like to use periods as you probally tell by now haha
Well Mike and Everyone
The noise has gotten considerable better in the last couple of days.
Who knoes for how long though.
I did take some temps before and after the Cat.
Before 279 F
After 245 F
I'm not sure what these mean but there you have it.
This car changes more than I change socks.
Someday I'll just take somewhere and let them go through it, someday.
Thanks
