There is two and only two ways to verify a 350 vs. 305. #1 look at the stamping on the back of the block to indicate a 5.0 or 5.7. #2 pull a head and measure the bore. There is not another way to positively id the difference between the two. I don't care how many years someone has been a mechanic, these are the only two ways. Lets face it, it wasn't a 350 car to begin with, and there seems to be some sketchy stuff going on with the trans and torque arm. You should verify to know exactly what you have.

There's also the suffix code on the front pad. Ok, there are three and only three ways to verify...

True....I've also seen guys swap out emission stickers from 350 cars and put them in the 305 cars....pretty slick.

I think he was talking about the TH350 transmission not the 350 engine.
Course if he was a Nissan mech for 30 yrs doesn't mean he would know diff between TH350 and PG and 700r4.

the guy i got the car from is my dads friend. he had the work done by his cousin about 5 years ago thats why he thought it was the 700r4 trans when he sold it to us. i was not real worried when i got it cause i knew i had a spare 350 trans in my garage. no my dad was not a ****ing nissan mechanic he does know what hes talking about. i didnt know ppl were so rude on this forum.

I don't think its a matter of being rude, I've received a lot of help and hopefully was able to do the same for some people as well. Its just that there are a lot of guys out there with cobbled together junk that can't really be helped....and honestly, it was starting to look that way with what you were describing. I've seen so many examples of guys with swaps that don't put things like the torque arm back or think they have a 350 to only find out its not....it seems like its been par for the course if you go through the threads.

Yeah, that carguy68ssrs can be mean sometimes!
Jeez man, learn to take a little ribbing, that's all it was.......I think.
Oh, and you still didn't answer my 2 last questions: has the torque arm been hooked back up, and has the torque arm been hooked back up?

I wasn't trying to be rude, I was just saying if he worked on other cars besides GM he might not have known the difference.
Now I want to know why you would want to put the 350 trans in instead of a 700r4?
Just because you have spare?
I would do r4 if you could afford it, Lower 1st gear so the car leaves harder and overdrive for cruising hiway

Yes the torque arm is hooked up. And I would rather have a 700r4 but I'm not really concentrated on that now. I just happen to have a spare 350 trans laying around incase the one I have goes bad. I'm not really trying to get this car fully restored or anything right now I'm just trying to get it where I can drive it with no problems and once I figure out the speedo thing it should be there. Every thing else works fine it runs and shifts good. all the other important things seem to be in good shape as well.
