dynomax header's are good but they aren't made of thick metal like hooker header's. but for the price dynomax are good but spend money on good gasket's.

headers are not something i would want to go cheap with. They look bad and youll wanna replace them before to long. and thats a PITA! Ive got some hookers on mine and they still look great.

as for the exhaust. with a 305, dont go too big, youll run into problems if so. i would think that 3" would be the max size you would want.

What about for a 350? I have a pair of Summit Racing Performance Headers. They're flat black, 350 engine block is painted orange. Should look pretty good. Should I keep my flowmasters, or find a new system?

EDIT: Shorty Style, 2.5 inch collectors.

Most shorty kits come with the ypipe ie hooker 2055's, slp, hedman, or the edelbrocks. Any aftermarket 3 inch cat back will be fine, its a matter of sound and style preference. i would also look into a high flow cat or replace it with an off road pipe depending on the smog laws in your area. your exhaust will only flow as good as its most restrictive point

dont get headers unless u got a motor that makes good horsepower that cant breathe, u put headers on it youll run into overheating problems, ehaust leaks, and youll never want to change ur sparkplugs again just get in the way

Default RE: question

i say definately get some headers, they made a big difference for my 305, felt alot better power throughout, and they make it easier to get to my spark plus, and havent had an exhaust leak and i just have flow techs! and what do headers have to do with over heating?

Default RE: question

i put slp shorties on my 87 350 tpi, i definetly have to unbolt the headers to get to my sparkplugs, do u have a stock 305, i put long tubes on another car i had a few years ago and i had to replace 2 starters cuz they fried my starter, i finally wrappedmy headersand put this lil heatshield i bolted to the firewall just so i could keep from replacing starters, and its a waste of money to start on bolt-on parts, id start from the inside of the motor and work my way out,

What?? First of all torque makes horsepower. The 305 TBI CAN make good power despite what anyone says.Sure, you will get more power from a 350, but not everyone wants to swap their engine. Even thoughthe LO3 has 170 HP, it's got 255 lb/ft TQ, which isrespectable. The problem with these motors is that they don't breathe. Headersareastep in the right direction to get your motor to breathe better. Definetly get headers, whether you have a 454, 305 or aV6, headers will help. But like 350RS said, you pretty much get what you pay for as far as headers are concerned. I would save up the extra cash for some nice Hooker headers, maybe get them powder coated. I would also definetly replace the spark plugs while you have that area open, just so you won't have to worry for awhile. I don't have any advice as far as x-pipe, y-pipe. etc. But get a nice cat-back to go along with the rest of the exhaust. I think Flowmaster sounds the best, and also helps a little with HP. 40 series sound great. The 80 series were pretty much made for the 3rd Gen F-bodys, but they are a little rhaspy (I like a deeper sound) Also, if you DO decide to swap your engine further down the road, the whole exhaust can stay and will bolt right up to a 350.
