Possibly getting new IROC.

Possibly getting new IROC.
When I turned 16 I remember seeing and hearing a beefed IROC fire up and was hooked. I thought I'm going to have that car. Well I went from an 83 Trans Am, to a 78 Z28, and now my 01 WS6, still never got that IROC. Things might be turning around, at least in a way. I'm going to check out this car http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/1234539908.html this weekend most likely for my wife. Just wondered what you guys thought about the car. The car looks immaculate and seems to have been taken care of. It's relatively low miles for the year, only 120,000 on a 1990. Just didn't know if there's anything in paticular I should be looking for. I'm pretty familiar with Camaros and Trans Ams, but have only had one third gen before.

well the 305 is weak, but ok. not sure about the 90's motors, but the 84 year ran very hot and was not too good on the motors. the tranny is OK as long as your not gonna be getting on it hard. another weak point but for that money it had better be totally 100% rust free with perfect everything and even then I think its to much.

It is a little steep, but from the pictures it looks very clean. Just look closely for the typical 3rd gen rust areas. That trans is fine, the 4L60E or non E gets a bad rap for no real reason other than the early 700R4s were a little unreliable. Those 305's and 350's of that era were smog motors. They are restrictive in the head, low compression and made to run lean and hot. Also, you'd be surprised at the difference between the sending unit temp gauges vs. mechanical. As long as the motor is in good shape you should be fine. What are your plans with the car if you get it?

This is going to be my wife's daily driver so ***** out power is not really high on the priority list. She's mainly into the looks of it. She has a 96 RS now that is a real heap. The power windows don't work, power steering pump going out. She bought it off of her brother and he let it slide. When we got it, it was four thousand miles over on the oil change, brakes carving grooves into the rotors. Yet he still wants it back so we're making him give us the money we paid him on it so far back. It was a nice car when he got it but I don't like the early 4th gens nearly as much as the 3rd gens so I'm pushing her to get this one. I did what little I need to keep the RS going but it's not a car I want to sink money into.

My 92 GMC has over 200,000 miles on it and runs great. I have always been real impressed with the longevity of the 350 if properly maintained. I know that I really need to check it over, but if everything checks out I thought I'd be ok. My dad had a 80's Monte Carlo that went to just under 400,000 miles, it had a 305, and was actually still running strong when he sold it. Granted the doors wanted to fall off when you opened them but it ran great. I feel my truck is a great example of GM engines standing the test of time. The only problem I have with that is the radio likes to go in and out at times. Besides, the current Camaro she's driving now isn't exactly in the nicest condition.
