Default possable purchase of a z28

well i am looking at a 1984 z28 with 41k original miles,2 small paint blisters,driver seat ripped,with t-tops,decent tires,runs and sounds good.

here is my question they are asking like 6500 for it i think it is high but i could be wrong any suggestions on what it is worth would be great.

thank you.

I would be very weary of an 84 claiming only 41K miles. Especially with ripped interior, which is a sign of a lot of use. For that kind of money you could buy a 4th gen with an LS engine, and have a vehicle which would be much better in every respect.

More like 141,000 miles. Reason the odometer rolled over (only five (5) digits on odometer). In my case I have a 87 IROC-Z with 9745 miles (+100,000) low mileage car.

Also, it is overpriced by about $5000.....

At that low of mileage, the ball joints, tie rod ends etc should all be in good condition also. The body/paint should be original, with not too many chips. Is the steering wheel loose? Is there wear on the carpet from getting in and out? Is the center counsel warn? How about rattles and squeaks? Is the driver side door sagging alot? It is very common for people to use the door and the steering wheel to lean on when getting in and out. It's easy and common to catch the edge of the bottom drivers seat with pants. You will many times find a rip there. If you see signs of wear like I and z28pete mentioned, it may very well have lots of miles. More that the seller is letting on.

i checked the doors and there is no sag,i could only drive it around the dealers parking lot they had no plates they say, sounded solid in the drive train, the rip in the driver seat is right on the side bolster where ur left cheek would be,the rear hatch carpet looks worn, also the ac does not appear to blow cold, and 1 more thing when the car is at idle the oil guage bounces around does not stay steady.
on mond i am going to take it for a long test drive and get on it a bit to see if the motor is strong, seems like the driver side t-top might have a leak they have some blk tape around the seals.
I just dont like the interior the seats front and rear have camaro 3 times on them and the doors have the same thing kinda ugly.will let u all know after the real test drive.....

Bring a camera, take some pictures, then post 'em up for us.

$6500 sounds like a lot for a car in the kind of shape you describe, though.

A dealer will try to get more $$ than a private party. It wouldn't hurt to low ball him.

if the t-tops leak, then its got more than 41k miles, just to go with what was previously mentioned. that or its been wrecked. t-tops dont generally start leaking until the body has been flexed a lot or its sat in the sun not being used for a long time. if its a dealer, ask for a carfax and follow the title history. if there is any non-disclosure of mileage in the title, then its over 100k miles.

This is true. They don't come new leaking, however there is a way to adjust the t tops so they fit tighter.

The more I read this thread, I believe it is a nice car, but you can buy one just as nice, or almost as nice for less than half of this price. Look around. They are out there. I'd stay away from dealers though.

i walked away from it they say they gave it a tune up and it ran worse than before the tune up,and they would not budge on the price so i will wait till tax time and see what i can get then.
thanks for all the info. also the oil pressure still was all over the place.
