Default oil pan gasket - thick or thin seal?

1985 camaro, V8, 5 speed.

Looking at replacing the oil pump and pan gasket. Any recommendation for pump? Thinking of going with Melling standard pump. Car is bone stock...

Also, will it take thick seal or thin seal gasket?

Cheers.

The thin seal was early, 55-74. After that was the thick seal. You might want to look into a Fel-Pro one piece gasket.
A Melling standard is fine. Replace the pick up with it and maybe look for one with the pick up welded on. A new one will just have a press fit and if you get it in there straight it will work fine.

Most Moroso pumps already have the welded on pickup. If not you can ask for it when you order it.

even thou your care is bone stock you might wanna put the extra 10-15 into a high performance pump, even on a bone stock even the better the oil circulates the better the engine will run and last.

nad yes your want the thick seal one yours, most gaskets will be year specific anyways
