OH NO! What did I do this time!?
I was trying to solve my noisy lifter, so with the engine running I pulled a valve cover and started tuning some of the rocker nuts.(A little at a time, till the knock went away) WOW! lifter knock gone! Sweet! Then I revved the engine and it sounded like my motor was gonna fly apart....she idles fine, but when you gas her, about a second or two later I get this NASTY clatter. I pulled the valve covers and set the valve lash as per manual and started her up again. Lifter knock still gone, but gas it and cripes, it sounds awful..I dont know if the clatter is related to the adjustment I made, because it sounds as if its coming from the front of the engine, around the timing cover. Its fine at idle, but gas it and CLACKCLACKCLACK. What does a spun bearing sound like?

Im tellin ya man, this thing was never meant to be. I hate to complain all the time about this car, but no matter what I do, I cant get ahead of it. If its not one thing its another. Im about one more repair away from selling the car........this motor noise REALLY has me worried. All the other stuff always had a good and bad scenario, but this noise just sound bad all around...........

Hopefully you did not tighten a valve too much and it stayed open some when a piston came up. Maybe not with valve reliefs cut in the piston and if the block was never machines and with stock pistons they never rise all the way to the top. But I don't know what you did. Adjusting valves ike that is the lazy mans BS way of doing it. It does not take much to take .020-.060 of lash out of a push rod and you don't want to go over .060.
I have heard of people F'king up and bending a valve and just running it. Some had luck with the noise going away. Either the valve straightening ir the seat conforming or sonmething.
Just tow it to me and let me work on it! I hate to see a wounded soilder. Your breaking my heart man.[&o]
