Default New Project

Hello guys, my name is nick. I'm new here and from Ohio. So in just goit my 1st camaro. Its a 1985 Iroc-z.
Specs:
l98 block from a corvette.
TPI from factory.
.030 over (355)
Upgraded fuel system including bbk regulator
hack off exhaust.
canadian guages

So heres the thing, the car is going to be a work in progress and i figured i'd start here. 1st thing is 1st. whatever has been done to the car was not from me. it was from the previous owner and he was a ricer. so with that being said lets start.
11/14/2011-the car runs real rich when in park or in drive. The temp gauge does not work. The gauge itself does, itll jump to max on start then back to nothing. The smaller fuel line leaks fuel (drop/sec). The wiring looks like crap. There are unplugged wires everywhere. Sounds like an injector is clicking when you push the throttle. A valve needs adjusted. So we will start with that. If anyone can guide me from the pics below that will be helpful. Thank you.

Best of luck, it looks like you inherited a tough mess.

1st. the gauges are normal, and not candian or any other country. As far as them not working correctly.....I'm suprised much works at all by looking at that. The one green plug you had looks to me like the TCC switch and should be placed back in the trans. The rest I'm fuzzy on,but get a good wiring diagram and go from there.

Couple other things. The trans was supposably an upgraded. Its a 700r4 with shift kit. It is said to have a small cam. It has been rebuilt in the last 3k miles. It does run good but real rich. It needs some work all around. So far im thinking a of replacing the coolant temp sensor and a fuel line. As far as a wiring diagram would it.be the same for the 350 thats in it now as the 305 was in it before? Both were tpi and I heard they had.very little differnces. Thanks guys.

Do you know what year the 350 is from? That will be the diagram you need. You could have a real mess on your hands. Do you know if the PO got a Prom to support the CAM? Any codes? Is the ALDL connector even hooked up?

first, welcome

next, sellers will always say the engine is from a vette.

TO clarify what Gorn asked, in 1985 the camaros did not come with a 350. So, I suggest checking the casting numbers because you may well have a 305 there and a BS story from the prior owner

Get a flashlight, a mirror and check the rear of the engine for the numbers

once you determine that, you will then know which shop manual to purchase from amazon

Ill check the casting numbers tomorrow. It was said to be a 1985 corvette block. Whether or not the prom was programed is unknown. Thanks for the replies, and ill get back to you guys soon.

i can see from your pics this: in your first pic ,thats for the 700r4 trans,it goes above the selector on the left side.second pic is for a knock sensor, it should be screwed into the block drain hole on the right side.third pic is the wires for the air switching valve which im assuming is missing.forth pic is for the fan control relay which should be near the battery mounted on the rad brace.i hope you the best of luck
