Is this new Holley carb supposed to snap closed?

a jr....unless your a glutton for bs,,id get rid of that air cleaner...
i had one on a olds 455 rocket,,,any sort of backfire will couse the element to melt into the carb...dont ask how i know,,they dont increase the airflow enough for me to ever use one agian....

Guys, that picture was from over a year and a half ago when I first dropped the engine in. It hadn't even been run yet in that picture.

Those foam filters are good for keeping larger bugs and rocks out, that's about it. I have used one of those filters before, and have had a "pop and melt" happen. What's even worse is if that happens when it's in a Vette with a flammable fiberglass hood above it!!!

Yeah, I know they're crap. I just bought it temporarily as it was cheap (I think $15 bucks at the time.) I wasn't sure what I would need to clear the hood so that was a good temporary solution.

I then later traded it to my buddy who was selling his 85 K10 pickup for a set of blackout covers for my Jeep. That way he was able to keep his K&N and Edelbrock Elite air cleaner assembly.
