Is this new Holley carb supposed to snap closed?
I received the refurbed carb today. (The 670 Avenger) When I manually open the throttle, it seems to be hanging up a bit on a small orange cam on the accelerator pump. It doesnt snap smartly closed, but sometimes needs a little nudge. Will that surface 'break in', does this need the return spring to help close it or did I get a bum unit?

What the linkage is doing to you doesn't matter, you always hook up a separate return spring to the carb. It may barely close on it's own now. But once your throttle cable is connected, it won't close without a spring.
Check the cam to see if it has any flashing on the surface. When you say "hanging up", does it feel like it's snagging or catching on something, or is it just resistance you feel? If it is hanging up, are you sure it's not something else on the rest of the linkage like the choke mechanism, etc.?
I put the slightest drop of oil on the orange cam. It now opens and closes without effort. You can see where the accelerator arm is rubbing on the plastic cam, leaving a bit of a mark. I know its hanging up on the cam because if I hold the accelerator pump arm off the cam, it moves freely. Im sure once its all hooked up it will move better.. I guess Im just not used to this 16 lb monstrosity. The Edeblrock I had was MUCH snappier than this (and about 10 lbs lighter) Looks like Ill just need a beefy return spring........
Anybody got a pic or a link to how they have theirs hooked up? Im gonna need to see the kickdown cable setup too.....all my old hardware isnt going to work with the Vortec intake.
Oh joy, ANOTHER Summit order..........

I just have the elcheapo chrome throttle cable bracket from Advance Auto. I think it's around 10 or 15 bucks and it works fine. I'm going to be upgrading to a nice billet setup though, I like the idea of a more positive pedal feel.
This is the best picture I have of it:
