New carb question
 

Noob question... Im planning on getting a new carb for my 86. but everything is stock, so im affraid once i slap an eddlebrock on there. a bunch of other stuff is gonna go whacky. becouse everything else is near 25 years old and the carb is fresh out the box. (305 with the four barrel quadrapuke rite now)

Anyways.. suggestions or advice is good

You'll need a vac adv HEI dist - you can't run a non-computer controlled carb with a computer controlled dist. If you have an automatic, you'll need a geometry corrector for the Eelbrock linkage to connect the TV cable properly. If auto you'll also need a method to lock the torque converter since the computer will no longer be functional.

The stock Quad is a much much better carb. You get great mileage, it'll easily feed a mild 350, and it's just overall a better carb - you should stick with it. You won't notice anything by swapping other than a big PITA tuning for no gain.

The Brock is a decent carb, but as stated earlier, the mounting geometry is a MOFO. Shop around, you can probably find a rebuilt stock carb for less than the Brock and you wont run into any of the other issues.

You can run a non CC'ed carburetor without removing the ECM. It's far from an ideal setup though.

I do agree though, rebuild (or have rebuilt, depending on your abilities) the stock computer controlled Quadrajet. Being totally stock, nothing will run that engine better.
