My uncle gave me the camaro so i can rebuild it as a gift and just to try to see where I'm at I'm trying to start it, I put a new battery and I'm getting the buzz but when I turn the key nothing no click, no click click click please help

 

Bad cables maybe? What year/model and what engine are we working with?
How long has the car been sitting and where,inside or out in the weather?
Have you tried to turn the motor over by hand to see if it's stuck or spins free?
Stick shift or automatic?
What do you mean by "the buzz"?

 

84 f41 it has the 305 it's been sitting since 06 qnd no I havnt honestly and it's auto, its been left outside and when the door is open with the key in the ignition it's it's warning sound letting you know your key is still in the ignition

 

Do you get dash lights when you turn the key on?

 

Yezzir all the lights turn on including the headlights and tail lights when I pull the light switch out

 

Well head lights are a stand alone system. My question was meant to figure out is everything else that is suppose to happen is happening when you turn the key. Assuming so my next step would be to see if small wire going to the starter is getting power (simple test light). Again I would do that after cleaning the cable ends. After 22 years of use and 15 years of sitting I am sure you need new cable but if you clean the ends she should at the very lease crank some.

If you are not getting power to the small wire you can hook up a remote starter and see how the cranking is going. If you are getting power the issue is in your cables or the starter itself.

Note that if the key/ignition switch is a problem the remote starter will still crank the car. It just may not start do to a lack of power to Distributor. Do not run the engine long if it starts unless you changed the oil. Plain dino oil breaks down over time and it will be more like kerosene then oil after 5 years or so.

Also you may want to disconnect the fuel line. and catch what the pump pushed out. Last thing you want is all the fuel that has turned to varnish to be forced into the carb. You could just add a second temporary fuel filter. I like the see thru ones so I can see how bad the fuel is. You also want to be sure the motor turns by hand before you crank it to see if it seized. Un-seizing a motor that has been sitting may not be a big deal but if you hit it with a brand new battery you could break the ring lands on the pistons.

 

Awesome I appriciate it when I get the extra time again I'll have to try this out I gotta wash the bottom though before I do there's allot of caked on dirt n oil but I appriciate the lookout I'll look into getting a remote start for sure

 

I reread my post , just to be clear the small wire would only have power while someone was trying to start the car and the remote starter just goes from the big wire to the little wire on the starter. Just a FYI there are tons of youtube videos about getting cars that have been siting running and driving/ It is a very popular type of video. Most of vise grip garage is finding and reviving cars like this. You may want to check some of those out.
