need help with my first camaro
hey i'm new here and i need some help. i just bought a 82 camaro berlinetta with an 305 lg4 engine and a bad tranny. i salvaged a transmission from a monta carlo with a 350 and put that in. now im wondering what would be the best thing to do to derive the most power from my engine. im thinking of a complete new exhaust system but i cant seem to find one. any help would be greatly appreciated.
yeah an exhaust will definitely help and if you buy an exhaust i recommend you get a better flowing intake(even a K&N filter) . as far as kits go, check out summitracing.com
heres some part numbers to look up

headers and y pipe (obviosly)
get a high flow cat
catback ( I have a dynomax but I shouldve spent the other 100 for a hooker(catback)
get a CAM! they will do alot for the 305's! (their was a build up in a mag and they made like 52 hp in the crank with just a cam)
and a good intake manifold
with a bit of work to your heads it will be a low 14 high 13 sec car

screw the exhaust for now, start saving for a better engine. the 305 is alright but the issue is it takes too much money to get fast, save for a 350 you can usually find one pretty cheap at machine shops or private owners. look around before sticking with what you have. remember in cars too much is never enough. but if you do decide to go with the 305 the headers and y pipe are a good start, also make sure that you have a carb flowing enough, the problem with a lot of gen 3 camaros is too small of a carb or fuel injection. case in point, the tbi system was only about 450 cfm, not enough for a 305 let alone a 350.
you dont need to do a motor swap, the 305 is an extremely reliable engine, and its verry possible to get a 13 sec car with a 305! I would be runing 13.8's If I had enough money for heads, and id probably be a round 13.2 or so if i decided to spray my car..I would have both heads and spray but I recently decided that it was going to be way to much for my car, and the fact i cant drive it for a while...
