need help with hatchback latch repair
The 88 camaro I just got has the rear H/B latch disassemble with parts missing. I'm quite sure I'm missing pieces but would like advice as to make what I have left work. My Haynes show the whole latch assy. with some sort of motor. Did these originally come with like a soft touch closing device like the caddys? What I've got left is the latch that slides up and down on another braket that bolts to the body. Some sort of roller bushings between them have fallen apart. My question is... Can I just calculate the proper close position of the Hatchback when closed and just weld the latch on to the bracket, then bolt that to the body? I'm sure someone has run into this problem before. Thanks for any input.
Oh one more thing. There is a classic camaro forum and and 3rd gen. forum. What years are considered 2nd generation???

i had an 88 with the caddy trunk switch, too many pplz slamed my trunk that it broke and i held it up with a wire untill i got a new one my advice, go to a junk yard and get one i think all third gens came w/ one execpt convert. i no this cause i now own a convert.
Most third gens came with them, Im pretty sure 86 and up. Anyway, best bet once again is hit up Ebay or the local junkyard. its MUCH easier to just unbolt and replace than weld and measure and all that.
