I have an 89 RS with the 305(V8). My radiator fan stoped turning on by itself. So i went and replaced every sensor on the block that delt with the fan and cooling system. While it wasnt working i was using a toggle switch and contoling the fan manually myself. So i know its not the fan itself. After replacing everything i wired it back to normal and it work fine by itself for a day and a half. Now its not working again. Does anyone have an idea.[/align][/align]

 

The fan is controlled by a temperature switch. It turns on when the coolant exceeds a certain temperature, which vaires depending on the rating of the switch. The stock one doesn't turn the fan on until the coolant reaches something like 220 degrees. If your coolant is not reaching that temperature it will not turn on.

If I were you, I would just hook up the fan to always be on when the engine is running, at least until you figure out why the fan is not coming on. This will not hurt anything since it is the thermostat that determines what temperature your engine runs at. The problem with using a manual switch to control the fan is that you may not remember to turn it on one day and you may cook your engine.

 

I dont know how older camaro's are. But, if it is an electronic fan. Turn ur A/C on and it should come on no matter what temp. If it doesnt come on at all. Try changing the fan motor itself. Its not that hard and not tooo expensive. I know this because I changed mine today. It costs about 25 bucks. Now, if its a mechanical fan try changing the fan clutch .
