Default Need help on a 3rd gen F-body

In addition to the 70 Camaro,my husband and I have a 82 Trans Am. We have had it for a few year, and between having a baby, and moving,we really haven't been able to do much for it in the past few years. This past summer,my husband has finally gotten it running! Yay! Now we are having some problems, that maybe can get some help on.

The car will not rev up at idle..kinda spits and sputters, when trying to accelerate down the road,it acts as if it has no power..it spits and sputters as if it wants to stall. It just doesn't want to go over 25mph.

Fuel is ruled out..carb is new,and properly adjusted.
It seems to be an ignition problem, but there are new plugs and wires.
The distributor is an 86,the module inside is a 75.

Don't know what other info you need..feel free to ask...I can talk to him bout any suggestions offered here, and see what else he needs to ask here. Thanks in advance.

how fresh is the fuel in the tank? is the fuel filter new? even just 6 months of sitting, fuel will start to gum up.

When we first got it...it started and ran fine...til we had oil leaking from the pan onto the exhaust...got alot of smoke..We pulled the motor, freshened it up,not entirely sure on the fuel filter,it's a cheap part, and my husband may of already put one on. The fuel is fresh, even put another 5 gallons in recently to test drive.

He initially thought an ignition problem..any thoughts??

check the timing on it. it may not be advancing enough, or something is wrong inside the dizzy.
