Default Need Help with a 1982-3 camaro Indy Pace car

Ok I don’t know how ridiculous I sound but here goes. I just bought a 1982-83 Camaro Indy pace car. Faded paint but you can see the faded stripes and markings of the Indy pace car. Top siren lights have been taken off (i don’t know if it came with them or not). Now what i have been reading is that they did not come with 350's but according to the car nothing has been changed in it and it has had a 350 with a 4 speed manual. also this 350 is carbureted not fuel injected.

According to the car? You mean it talks to you?

It's either been changed or it's a 305. The 4 speed manual could very well be factory though, if it is indeed an 82 and not an 83.

well the car belonged to one of my friends and they have had it for over 12 years... my original intention was to pull the 350 and 4spd out of it and junk the shell but now i don't know...

How do you know its a 350? (And what exactly is your question???) Is the body SO bad that you are going to junk it?

I would agree. Unless you can see the stamp on the block, don't assume anything. Plus, I would think a 350 and 4speed can be found all day long for $500 or less, but a legit 82 pace car body won't be as easy.

1982 had 189,747 Camaros built that year.

Of them, there were 6,360 Indy Pace Car Z28's

All Camaros in the year 1982 could be had with the 4 speed.

None of them came with an engine larger than 305 cubic inches.

Question still not answered, how do you know the displacement of that motor?

Look at the first of the vin. It should read something like D03c. that would be D (82 model year) 03 would be month( 03 would be march 04 would be april and so on.) c is the 3rd week of the month or d for example would be 4th. Also look for the code on the rpo sticker inside the cosole the rpo code for pace car option is Z50. Also look at the block behind the driver side cylinder head. the block casting number for the original 305 is14010203. hope this helps

So, lets get this straight, you gonna pull out the driveline, (whose motor displacement is yet to be determined), and junk the shell, of an early 80's indy pace car? I disagree.
