I am not sure how you could prove that it is collectible. In the car world, there is no collectibilty to your car, but maybe if you can document the production numbers and prove that it is rare you might be able to get around the smog ****'s. Try searching google for a 3rd gen specific site, they might be able to tell you prodution #'s

It almost sounded like a 1LE package but they came out in 86 and had no T-top so it most likely is not worth the trouble of looking into if it is that package. You just got the bone stock cheap-o.

there is a certain year that all cars become "collectable" or "classic". Its 20 years old, so an 85 should pass. I believe my buddy's 86 mustang 2.3 got that status... but im not sure. we dont have emissions in iowa, so we dont have to worry about it

I had found an 1LE package camaro here (i think it was a 1991) low KM, mint condition. If only i would of had 12K to spare. It was supposedly appraised at 19,000

alright bud, i dont know if your state is the same but i know in PA for your car to be registered as a collectible, all you have to do it prove that the car is great to excellent condition, that its either been restored or redone in some sort of way or if its still excellent from factory, wether thats a restoration or complete modification it doesnt matter. and i know in pa your car has to be 20 years old, i was just eligable for it less than a few weeks ago.

my 87 is registered as collectible( was just eligible, hasnt been on more than a month), it was originally a bare bones v6 base coupe, base options everything on power anything no ac, no cruise no nothing, no its pretty much a pro street setup, z28 body styling, 3" cowl hood, 350 small block, holly 650, all leather inteior, 8 point roll cage, custom dash and electrical. Most states instead of collectible call these plates hobbyist tags. if you any motor work done and the car is in great shape(paint and all) i would go for the collectibles, if its all stock except for the motor(i mean appearance wise, even the wheels) you could go for classic as well but its a bit harder to get than collectible.
