Default More rear end questions

It looks like I've settle on an Eaton unit and 3:73 ratio. I've got a quote for $1700 for everything....retaining original axles. Can anyone out there tell me if this sounds reasonable? I don't mind spending this amount, and I've taken my time trying to get the right setup for what I have. This just seems a few hundred more than I thought for the retention of the old axles....If anyone out there has done this work recently, let me know. I am probobly going to get it in the shop by tomorrow after I get another quote.

Thanks guys, I know the eaton unit is like 500 bucks...I don't know where the extra 1200 comes from...I'll keep looking.

Keeping the stock housing, getting the eaton unit, new ring/pinion, bearings, and axle shafts....what did some of you guys pay...or expect to pay?

I looked at 12 bolts, or even 9" but felt for 3G I just didn't need it. The rear is the last piece of the puzzle and I don't mind spending good money for a good rear, but how much is overkill.

Rough estimate:
$500 Eaton LSD
$250 Moser 28 spline axle shafts
$200 3:73 gear set
$100 Misc rebuild partsTotal $1050 + $350 labor est=$1400+++
Not cheap, just a ballpark number.

Thanks, I think I need to speak with them again regarding their quote. Or look somewhere else, they aren't the only game in town. When he said 1700, I said ok thats roughly what I expected, then asked what brand of axles he was going to use....thats when he said I didn't include axles.

That is a much better price for the Job. But some additional info, you said Richmond gear set. The gear teeth are cut for racing and can be quite NOISEY even set up correctly for street use. My choice would be Motive Gear for street use, just so you know.

He did mention that about richmond. He has a few brands in stock and said that I could change my mind between now and when they put something in. I don't mind noisey, as long as its not out of control. He mentioned a few other brands that he recommended over others. The price was within 10 bucks between brands. He said he liked richmonds products quality and durability over others. I have no plans of dragging the car as even with this set-up as I still believe the rear will be the weakest link. But with street tires I'll break those loose before any stress is seen by the rear. My next question will be what color driven gear to change out in the trans.
