Mice In My Cluster
While moving, I hear something squeaking inside my instrument cluster. If I accelerate, the frequency of the squeaking increases with speed. Could this be the cable that's responsibly for sending speed back to the speedometer? That's my guess. Anyone else have this issue? What'd you do to fix it?
Depends on what's squeaking, the cable or speedo. For the cable, clean it well and use a graphite based speedo cable lube. Regular oil or grease can gum up the cable and make the needle jumpy.
I'm trying to gain access to this damn thing and i just spent 20 minutes taking the cluster apart... I cannot get the speedo off. It doesn't pull out like the rest of them. I noticed the two small flat blade screws and I took them off, but I cant get the needle off. I tried yanking it and it isn't coming off. So before I broke something, I figured I'd just run it by on here. What do I need to do to gain access to the speedo cable?
Okay, update. I got the Speedometer off. (Just a tug and the needle pops off). Now, I'm trying to figure out how to get the big plastic bezel out. I found the two hidden nut-shaped clips closer to the bottom, but there's something that needs to be disconnected behind where the speedometer sits. It's the speedometer cable housing thing that I cant figure out how to disconnect from the white bezel thing. Anyone know what I'm talking about here?
Are you just trying to lube up the speedo cable? It would be a lot easier to disconnect the housing from the trans and pull the cable out from down there. I don't get why you're trying to take the speedo out of the cluster?
