LT1 swap on a 91 RS
Ok, so i have a 91 RS with a TBI 305. An if you read my other post you will see that i had a horibale experince racing a blazer last night. Anyways I've always liked how the intake manifolds look on the LT1's and seein on how it's a 350 an all i know ill get some power gain with further potential than a 305. so i was wondering if ya'll knew what it would actually take to drop this in my car. right now it's a auto matic but thinking bout converting it during the swap. also keep in mine i have acess to a shop with a host, crain, tool, and machine shop, an most parts at cost, so what would it take to do that. also i have a 350 on the floor so i would use that block with LT1 heads and manifold.

See if You can find a donor car ( wrecked ) and get the whole package ( engine, trans , computer, fuel system. etc. ) and swap everything out. It'd be cheaper to buy a wrecked car and take it out, a wrecking yard would kill Your wallet.

The LT1 heads and manifold won't work on a regular 350, water passage problems. You also need the LT1 block. It would easier to put a good set of heads, cam, and manifold on the 350, or get a donor car as uncle bill stated.

RE: LT1 swap on a 91 RS
I have the exact same car as the guy originally positng here. I have no ability to do the work myself, but I am wondering, if I was to purchase the doner car or the parts, what would it cost me to have the engine-tranny combo swapped? Would it make a difference between LS1 or LT1? I used to have a 96 WS6 Trans Am which was fast enough but my TBI 305 just never cut it. It was my first car and has been sitting for 5+ years now. Still looks good but it needs some major mechanical work. Thanks for the help.

I would personally go with the LS1...thats what I am thinking for my 2.8 swap but its that or a 350. I know there is a lot you can do to an LS1. I know someone who owns a trans am LS1 with a rear mounted turbo that thing flies....600HP at the rear wheels

IMO you should take the 350 you have on the floor, with a good set of heads, cam and manifolds it cam make as much power as the LT1 or LS1, and save yourself a lot of work and money. Small blocks used in NASCAR racing produce 700 to 800 HP with a 4 bbl carb, so the potential is there.
