Default Look at engines

So, I am currently fixing up my 305 v8, I am wondering before I start droping some serious cash, like a new higher power ignition system in it. I was wondering is the 305 will be worth it.

Or would be upgrading/ overhauling to a bigger one be something to be worth while investment.

My main goal is to just be a weekend driver with it with a nice looking engine. If I can make my 305 bring out some more horse power / torque. I will be happy.

305 are still pretty good motors, ive seen some pretty fast ones that are built right, stroked and what not, ignition wise go msd always imo..but i mean id say if you just wanna good car to put put around in yeah build the 305, get some headers, cam, intake maybe gears not too big maybe like 3.73's etc. etc. and she'd be pretty stout. then just chrome her out nd keep it clean. if you wanna get some really big numbers for like a street/streep car i say go with a bigger motor, just my opinion

ya, I am hoping the 305 will do me nicely. I would like a 5.7 but replacing the whole engine is beyond my tools I own, to start with. I think when I place my custom pipes on to the car to make it sound a little louder I will be much happier.

Not sure how much louder the 5.7 would sound. But I enjoy the purr from what I have now. I have been giving some tips to help make it more fun.

there wont be really a difference in sound, sound all has to do with flow, size of pipes, cats/no cats muffler etc. like on my car (350) i have it dumped after the cat which is gutted, so my car is ungoddly freakin loud not to mention a small cam makes it sound sick, anything can be loud though

mmm, thats really good to know. i'v been looking at pipes, and I keep seeing some sites say stuff about the heritage editions. Which I really have no idea if my camaro is one. I just know it has the 25th anniversary on the dash. But other than that looks like new pipes are being pushed up to the top of my build list.

ive never heard of heritage editions? maybe some of the other guys on here, but yeah, some exhaust will make a big difference, i say get a good set of long tube headers, idk the laws in ur state but in NC you dont have to pass emmissions pre 96 cars if it applies to you gut the cat or get a catless mid pipe, and a good muffler, and your car will be pretty damn loud and sound good, and you will pick up some power from it. this is comin from a guy who you can hear me kick it over a mile away and sets off alarms for fun haha

yeah, I am out in Oregon, we have some awful vechical laws that make modding cars in this state not fun. But they more for rice rockets than muscle cars.

yeah, not sure I can get a cat since in oregon you need a muffler. can't have links in the exhaust system, and no pinched outlet pipe.

Since I am in the military, I can be in any state and my car will be coming with me. So getting decent pipes is pretty hard
