just picked up an 89
We just picked up an 89 camaro for 1K, the car has 160K miles auto and a 5.7 V-8. the paint is a bit rough but the body is good. Not much rust, what is there is pea sized spots on the A-pillar. interior is good. wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to bolt on power. All the smog crap has been deleted already.

not sure what the issue is but I cant post any pics for some reason. I,m thinking the head gasket's are close to shot so i'm in the process of changing them out. I have had a heating issue with it, it runs around 160's on the highway and 220's in town. I have changed the radiator to a larger one and has an electric fan. the hoses have been replaced along with the thermostat (160*). it runs until i shut it off then chokes and spits white smoke when i try to restart it. BUT, if I hold it to the floor while starting it fires rught up. The previous owner had cut the exhaust off right after the y pipe so it's been running open exhaust for who knows how long.

if your doing head gaskets, you might as well throw in a set of headers while youre at it. hedman makes a good set of shorties, just make sure you get their y-pipe they recommend. also, 220 is rather normal for around town driving. hell, even 240 is considered normal.

wow, didnt know that. when I stop and check the engine the overflow tank is always empty and when i pull the release lever on the radiator cap it ends up boiling out into the overflow and the upper radiator hose gets hard as hell. then the car would "start" but spit and puff smoke then die. last night it was acting like it was out of gas so i filled it up with gas cans and it acted the same. I have already changed the thermostat, radiator, hoses, coolant, and made sure there is flow in the radiator so I'm almost sure the pump is okay. up until last night if I took the breather off for a bit and released some of the preasure it would start up and run fine, now it acts like its out of gas all the time. I have had alot of friends over and have tried to find the issue but have no idea.
