Unhappy Just bought a 89' Iroc Convertible

Its been in storage since 05'. 49,000 miles. Lots of new parts. Gas tank, etc. Runs well. I just got it registered and took it out on the highway for the first time in over a decade. I enjoyed it. A slight hesitation......I think I have to do a Transmission service.
Only issue is a very bad gas smell when I put it in the garage. Stunk up the house. Had to leave the garage door open all night. Gave me a head ache. Think its just burning off some crap or do I have an issue with the TPI?

If it hasn't been done already I'd want to go through the whole brake system replacing any rubber parts and making sure the fluid is fresh.
Same with the fuel system, it's a 30 year old car sitting for over 10 years so rubber bits tend to go bad.
Sounds like you got a pretty sweet 3rd gen, congrats!

thanks for the replies! It was a gas leak from the fuel pump on top of the tank. It was all replaced serviced after its 13 yr nap. The gasket on the fuel pump was not done correctly and was leaking. It wasnt an issue until I filled it up. Tiny drip drip leak.
but god dang it stunk up the whole house! Terrible.

Update:

gas tank had a crack. It was repaired with JBWeld. No ****. The seller was unaware....he paid good money to get the car in top running condition. They put an old tank in , repaired dangerously. Miami special. THANKFULLY Shes in good hands now.

Thanks. I want to be pissed off. But I keep reminding myself how this could have went bad. Gas on the floor of my garage, hot exhaust , house full of fumes. Holy ****......Could have been tragic. The guy who sold me the car was legit. This car is/was his baby. Its been in storage for years with the hope of driving it and using it. His wife got ill. They needed the money. He has receipts because he knew it would take some doing to wake her up. I'd love to go down to the shop where he had the work done with a camera and ask the guy how in the world does he sleep at night? But I'm 4 hrs north of Miami . Just gonna get her done the right way and move on. He ordered a bunch of new parts , i'm not taking any chances on any work he did. So I wont have her back until after New Years but at least I know she will be straight.

Sure: This was taken by the original owner to sell the car but the car. Paint is beautiful . Deep red. Hard to believe its 30 yrs old! Close up Its got a few Road blemishes on the hood The paint can use a good Clay cleaning and wax, but Its sweet. Just needed some TLC to get it running right. I believe once the tank is replaced and the fuel pump /filter its gonna be sweet.

Nice, not a lot of 3rd gen survivors that clean out there anymore.
