intake manifold or cam?

Default intake manifold or cam?

which would be the better choice for an upgrade. i want to gain some power but stay at about the same mpg. and what cam or intake would you suggest?

oh yeah. it needs to stay smog legal in california....-mubles underbreath....stupid california and its extreme restrictions gir-

California Smog requrirements, well a cam or intake would not be my first choices. Work on the exhaust system first.

already has a dynomax exhaust. i like it so im going to keep it for a while.

A cam and intake are not going to hurt you. Just have to be sure to get an intake for EGR. But to do a cam you are going to have to pull the intake anyway. If you were to go witha cam might as well do both at once.

true. is there enough room to put the cam in without pulling the engine? only reason i ask is because its pretty close in there

Yes, although you will have to remove nearly everything from in front of it.

so ive decided to do the intake manifold. right now im leaning towards the edelbrock performer from summit. now my question. does anybody have any expirience with this manifold? good? bad? and will i need an adapter for the stock carb to fit?

87 camaro z28 carb'd 305

any answers would be much apprieciated

I had that one on my 84.
No adapter. You can see by the pic it is open for the larger secondaries on the Q-jet.
It will raise the hight of your carb and air cleaner I think 1/4". My hood still closed with the stock air cleaner but you could see where it slightly rubbed on the hood insullation.
And if you are using the stock air cleaner there is a ring in it around the opening for the carb. When the lid is bolted on it closes up cutting off air. Three spot welds to grind and that ring pops out. A cheap and FREE mod.
