Default Im new here

So I have two camaro's (and hopefully soon a 3rd) with a lot of history for me. Just seeing what some of you guys may think about my newest project.

I am working with a 92 I-ROCZ with a blown up TPI 305. I have got a 283 with a set of flat tops in it and a cam we are guessing (it was free and in good condition) around .550 lift and a 292 duration. There is a set of 305 H.O. heads on top of that with 58cc chambers and I cant recall the valve size right now. It is topped with a stock GM high rise intake and a 500 CFM carb.

I am thinking of using the TPI set up on the engine instead of the carb. Know what I mean. Turn the key and go. The cam will play games with the map but I think a vac can may help. Also I have a TH350 Buick/Olds/Pontiac/Chevy trans with a B&M hole shot 3800 stall and a 4.10 eaton posi set up. I am still using the 10 bolt.

Anyone have any input on this set up? I am trying to make this a street strip car. Been thinking about a 4 link set up with a 9 inch. But just seeing if anyone likes the TPIs and has any info. Thanks.

Welcome the the board it gets addictive when you get into it, i have 4 camaro's now and i dont think they will be the only ones lol.

But i would just go and get a 350, TPI is good but personally i like the carbs (couple warm up minutes arent that bad). don't expect any real power with the 283 (good reliable motors though) or the 305. sell the engine parts you have (if you can) and invest in a 350, even those 305 HO engines are pretty good to start with.

I have had too many 350's I work in a machine shop building engines. I got bored of doing what everyone else had. With the cam profile and valve spring pressures I should be able to hold up to about 8K rps maby a little higher. This is a powerfull little 283 I have already had it running. I know I will not get the torque out of it but there is something to be said for the little guys.

I am half tempted to build a chevy DZ302 for my old camaro and see how that runs on the track. I have not seen a 3rd gen with a 302 in it yet. lol

Know what I mean about the 350 thow?

Throw a pontiac 400 in her? but i wont knock the 350 sbc, sure alot of people have them but thats because they are good. theres so much you can do with them, stroker, heads, cam etc. IMO it just wouldnt be worth spending money on anything with less ci's than a 350 but thats only if you want the hp and torque, if you don't care about that stuff then 267, 283, 302 and 305 are all reliable motors just not as powerful (stock). But dont get me wrong, you can get some good HP out of them with some cash but like i said i would rather put the money towards a 350ci and up. I would love to get a 396 BB in my Camaro.
